Public Research Symposium with Food Bank Ikoro Sapporo

A public research symposium titled “Period Poverty: Report on the Questionnaire Survey” was held at Sapporo L-Plaza on June 2nd, 2026, in collaboration with Food Bank Ikoro Sapporo. During the symposium, SmileLab’s Ms. Annabelle Jin (Visiting Research Fellow) and Ms. Oose (Master’s Student, 1st Year) delivered a presentation about their research studying period poverty among food bank users in Sapporo. Professor Taro Yamauchi, Assistant Professor Akira Sai, Researcher Dr. Sikopo Nyambe, Dr. Md. Nahid Uz Zaman (Postdoctoral Research Fellow), Dr. Joy Sambo, and Mr. Nobuhiko (Doctoral Student, 1st Year) also attended the event. Together with members of Food Bank Ikoro Sapporo and participants from the general public and local government offices, they engaged in interactive table discussions and exchanged diverse perspectives on period poverty and related social challenges.

The symposium provided a valuable opportunity to raise awareness of menstrual equity and promote dialogue among researchers, community organizations, and the public.
